A collagen-stimulating agent based on polylactic acid.
Sculptra is a collagen-stimulating agent composed of polylactic acid. Sculptra serves as both a collagen-stimulating agent and a filler in a single vial. When Sculptra is injected, it immediately smooths the tissue thanks to mannitol and carboxymethylcellulose (these additional components of the product biodegrade within 5–7 days), while poly-lactic acid stimulates fibroblasts (the main cells of the dermal layer of the skin that produce hyaluronic acid and collagen). Thanks to the stimulation of type 1 collagen production, skin elasticity is restored and volume is replenished.
The formation of new collagen fibers occurs gradually after the procedure. The maximum result is noticeable after about 6 months and lasts for about 2–3 years, even though the product itself dissolves approximately 4 months after injection.
In addition to neocollagenesis, the product, by virtue of its physical presence under the skin, fills in voids, restoring tissue volume that is lacking or lost with age. Depending on the dosage selected, the treatment can either stimulate collagen production alone or also reshape facial contours.
Depending on the issue, age, and desired effect, the product is administered either as a single treatment or as a course of approximately 3 procedures spaced 4–6 weeks apart. According to studies, collagen production increases by 30–40% after the second Sculptra filler treatment.
The effect is noticeable after the first procedure: skin firming, increased elasticity, and smoothing of the skin’s texture.
Indications:
- age over 30;
- loss of tissue volume;
- lipoatrophy;
- tissue ptosis;
- Sagging skin on the face and body;
- Decreased skin elasticity;
- Bone resorption;
- Atrophic scars.
Treatment areas:
- Lower jaw area
- Cheeks
- Area around the ear
- Preauricular groove
- Chin area along the lower jawline
- Temples
- Mid-cheek groove
- Nasolabial folds
- Lower jaw
- Chin fold
Sculptra is not recommended for injection into the forehead, the nose area, the eyelid area and the corners of the eyes (“crow's feet”), or the area above the upper lip. The “red border” of the lips should not be treated. Traditional hyaluronic acid-based products and neurotoxins are more suitable for these sensitive areas.
